How we write our practice questions
Every Site Card Test question is original. We base it on HSE guidance and the law, and check it against those sources before it goes on the site.
Original questions, based on HSE guidance
The CITB test covers health, safety and the environment on site. We write our questions from HSE guidance and the regulations behind it, section by section, so the practice tests cover the same ground as the real test.
We never copy, translate or closely reword CITB's questions, other providers' questions, or questions from "question dump" videos and PDFs. We use AI tools to help draft and review questions, and every question then goes through the checks below before it is published.
Written for site workers
- Most questions open with a short, realistic site situation.
- The right answer depends on the rule that applies, not on a keyword.
- Every option sounds sensible. A wrong option usually gets part of the answer right but breaks one rule.
- We use short sentences and explain any technical word the first time it appears.
Every answer explained
Each option has its own explanation of why it is right or wrong, and each question links to the HSE pages it is based on. Explanations are free, and we plan to translate them into Romanian and Polish. The questions themselves stay in English, as they are on the test.
Checked before it ships
- Before a question is published, every fact in it is checked against HSE guidance and the law. The date of that check is shown as "Last verified" on topic and question pages.
- Automatic checks run on every change: each question needs an explanation for every option, valid answers, a known CITB section and topic, and at least one HSE source.
- When the law or HSE guidance changes, we update the affected questions and check them again.
- We re-check the CITB test facts on this site (the fee, the pass mark, the versions and the languages) against citb.co.uk before each release. The facts were last checked on 2026-10-25.

Found a mistake?
Email support@sitecardtest.co.uk with the test, the question (a link or the first few words is enough) and what you think is wrong. We check it against HSE guidance, fix the question if it needs it, and reply, usually within 2 working days.
